Q&A With Carolyn From Images Cornwall

Interview with Carolyn from Images Cornwall, a Newquay based wedding photographer

We talk to Carolyn from Images Cornwall about getting started as a wedding photographer in Newquay 20 years ago, being sung ‘happy birthday’ to by all the guests at a wedding, and being an Award Winning photographer through the British Institute of Professional Photography.

How long have you been photographing weddings for and how did you get into it?

For almost 20 years.  I starting capturing weddings to help fund myself through college and university originally and then just fell in love with it.

How would you describe your style?

Predominately classic, but include fine art and reportage images wherever possible.

Who or what inspires you?

I am inspired by classical artists and their use of light and shadow.

What do you find most challenging about wedding photography?

In recent years getting the business, as there are so many more photographers. On the actual wedding day, the most challenging is organising large group shots.

And what do you find the most rewarding?

When you get such positive responses and thanks from the wedding couples and their friends and family.

What advice would you give to couples looking for a wedding photographer?

Arrange a meeting with them as you are with your wedding photographer more than anyone on the day so it is important that you get along.

What’s the best moment you’ve had as a wedding photographer?

So many to choose from! I was blown away at one wedding I did on my birthday when the whole wedding party sang happy birthday to me, it was so lovely.
I have also been lucky enough to win many awards through the British Institute of Professional Photography which is also special, as the images are judge by some great photographers both regionally and nationally.

Are there some tips for choosing the right photographer?

Check out their portfolio, price packages, testimonials from other wedding couples and meet them first.

If you could photograph anyone, who would it be and why?

Nobody in particular; I enjoy working with all my couples and making them look and feel special on their big day.

When not working at weddings, what do you do to relax?

I enjoy walking and taking more photos.
